What should I wear in place of a trench?

Urgent question! I recently read an article on glamour.com (and everywhere else) that a trench coat is a good splurge this winter season. I have one, but it seems to swallow me whole! I am almost 4'11" and i weigh about 90 pounds, so most trenches' shoulders are to big for me. Is there a solution? I want to fix this jacket or fix it witha different winter beauty trend that i can substitute for it?
