Tattoo in memory of mom?

My mom ped away a little over a year ago. I don't have any tattoos yet, but I was thinking of getting one in memory of my mom. I want something really small, and I was thinking about getting it on my foot. What I was thinking of was a burgundy awareness ribbon (for sepsis, which is the infection that took her life) and then Mom written sort of over it, with her birth date on one side of it, and the date she died on the other. What do you think? Do you have any other ideas? Also, since I have never been tattooed, I was wondering how painful the foot is?
