What point is there in supporting the Arts?

while i think that the arts are a necessary part of the human condition, I agree with you about funding. The Arts have become elitist pursuits, by elitists for elitists. In a culture that revels in fame and celebrity, this, unfortunately, is what informs our Art these days. It's all about bigger better and greed. The only people who can afford to attend art events are the moneyed who are interested not in Art but rubbing elbows with fame and celebrity. Artists will always make art. But starving children, living without water, no medical help, wars. We need to re-think priorities.
